We are looking for a Senior Data Protection Specialist to make an impact that matters.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a high-growth company with a unique business model in a workplace where you can truly make a difference. We are over 500+ employees across 31 different nationalities and would like to continue the growth by employing a Senior Data Protection Specialist to join our office in Copenhagen.

You will join a talented and ambitious team centrally organised in Group Legal. Compliance has a group responsibility for Compliance, GDPR, and our Whistleblowing channel, Raising your Concern.

The green transition must be built on a solid foundation. The purpose of the position is to support this foundation by ensuring compliance with data protection requirements.

This is a cornerstone in Better Energy’s Community Engagement Model, which builds on correct and transparent handling of personal data for landowners and neighbours.

Further, your data protection expertise will come into play as trusted advisor in a variety of tasks supporting the organisation at all levels and in all our markets.

This position is part of our Compliance, Group Legal function and will report to our Director, Head of Compliance in Denmark. This is a critical role at our fast-paced, growth-oriented business in a high-focus industry.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced data protection professional with excellent knowledge of personal data protection programmes, strong communication skills and a solution-oriented attitude.

We have a dynamic work culture with short decision-making processes, so you will have the opportunity to influence and develop your own tasks and responsibilities.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain and further develop the legal framework around GDPR for existing and new markets with respect to local differences - in cooperation with local GDPR representatives
  • Improve and drive the GDPR control framework to ensure compliance and address potential issues
  • Provide expert advice and educate employees on important data protection requirements
  • Maintaining a deep understanding of relevant legislations and developments within the area of data protection
  • Fostering and developing the data protection culture throughout the group
  • Further development and anchoring of processes and tools to support the ongoing GDPR work across the organisation,
  • Conduct data flow mappings, risk assessments, DPIAs and TIAs, implement proper documentation (e.G. DPAs) and maintain and drive the records of processing activities
  • Draft new and keep existing governance documents (privacy policies, privacy notices, business procedures, etc.) up to date
  • Implement the GDPR governance framework in new markets.
  • Ongoing advice on GDPR-related issues for new initiatives, which include assessments of legal basis, retention rules, data processing agreements, etc.
  • Investigation, documentation, and potential reporting related to personal data breaches for all markets
  • Responding to requests regarding data subjects' rights and enquiries from Data Protection Authorities

So, who are we looking for?

Personality, experience, and approach are more essential than education to be successful in Better Energy.

You might be the right match for Better Energy if:

  • you have proven experience with GDPR from a regulatory - and preferably also operational - perspective,
  • you know how to map data flows across IT platforms and processes,
  • you have a high professional level and at least some years of experience from a position as a GDPR specialist or DPO in a risk-, compliance-, legal- or audit function,
  • you have practical experience in performing risk assessments,
  • you have practical experience in communicating and translating legislation into good solutions, processes, and tools as well as anchoring and maintenance,
  • you hold a relevant education, ideally supplemented by relevant professional qualifications, and
  • you are able to demonstrate business acumen
  • you are ambitious and motivated by working with other talented and dedicated colleagues.
  • you have great interpersonal skills and ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • you are curious to learn, have a can-do attitude and take responsibility of every task until completed.
  • you are flexible, positive, and able to work together with colleagues with diverse professions, backgrounds, and nationalities towards a common goal.

Knowledge about national implementation of the GDPR in our core markets (Poland, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland) is an advantage.
